Latham changed names four times at the same crossroads
Jonas Yearsley settled at what's now the corner of Route 2 and Old Loudon Road in 1785 and built the area's first hotel; the crossroads was known as Yearsley's by around 1829, then Van Vranken's around 1851, then Town House Corners around 1860, before hotel owner William G. Latham gave it the name that stuck -- his son James kept running the hotel until his death in 1933.
